Facebook's Data Leak, What Does it Mean for the Future of Social Media

Maybe it was time for the typical correction that occurs typically after rapid growth.

What is it really about

It is about the convergence of data privacy and rights. And, the future of the free social networking model currently underwritten by advertising based on users individual and aggregated data.

Testifying

So, all digitally-concerned eyes were on Mark Zuckerberg's testimony to a US Congressional Committee today determining the significance of the consumer data breach during the 2016 United States Presidential Election that will be the catalyst for industry change, likely in some form of regulation. Not unlike other forms of advertising.

Facebook founder and CEO testified at a joint hearing before the Senate Judiciary and Senate Commerce, Science, and Transportation committees on Tuesday, April 10 at 2:15 pm Eastern time. And, he will testify before the House Energy and Commerce Committee on Wednesday, April 11, at 10 am Eastern Time.

Since I am receiving so many inquiries on what this may mean for Facebook, social media channels and the future of social media marketing, and because there is no one right or known answer at this time, I thought I would provide a short list of resources that I will be watching as this continues to unfold.
